People are rediscovering the joys of camping and many parents are taking their children for short weekend camping adventures in the countryside. Camping in the United Kingdom is always a risky business. While there is very little risk of encounteruing Bears or poisonous Snakes there is every chance you will encounter some uncertain British weather.

But, as long as yiou have the right camping equipment you and your family can have a lot of fun, regardless of the weather. One of the most important pieces of camping kit has got to be your sleeping bags.

There are a great selection of sleeping bags to choose from these days, some will cost only a few pounds but others can cost a small fortune. So how can you make the right choice for you and your family?

The first thing to consider is the time of year and where you will be camping. There is really no need to buy an expensive winter quality sleeping bag if you are only ever going to use it during the summer months.

Another aspect to keep in mind is how your sleeping bag will be packed. Will you be hiking with your sleeping bag in a backpack or will it never need to be crammed into a small pack? And finally we must, of course consider the price. The price of sleeping bags, both down and polyester filled, can vary enormously. Down filled bags tend to be the most expensive and most suitable for winter and all year round use.

Your most economical sleeping bag is likely to be polyester filled and suitable for the warmer summer months only. You will probably also want a sleeping matt or maybe an airbed for sleeping comfort and insulation from the cold ground.

You will find Hot running water, gas and electricity on demand – TVs, Fitted Kitchen, Shower and Toilet.

Off the Park

Take a trip to Scarborough, a little bit futher up the coast and visit the Scarborough Sea Life center where you’ll find an exciting showcase of marine life to entertain and enthrall. Prepare for astonishing close views of everything from humble starfish to mighty sharks, all in displays which carefully recreate their natural habitats.

Eden Camp Museum
Eden Camp Museum is a unique museum designed to give you are taste of life World War 2. A fascinating slice of history that will introduce you to the experience of living during the blitz as well being a soldier fighting on the front line. Not to be missed.

When I was a child, most people I knew used duffle bags. Though there were some with backpacks around, they weren’t as common as they are today. Today, most will choose to carry a backpack if given the choice, but there are still some great uses for the duffle style of bag. There are some things just can’t be carried in a backpack if you want them to remain in one piece.

A backpack is suitable for many reasons. The biggest is that they are much easier to carry than the duffle bags.However, there are some who know that the duffle bag is the smart choice in many occasions. A good example is a musician. Although there are special bags for some of the more sensitive equipment that they might own, many will carry those items in a duffle bag. If the same stuff were put in a backpack it would be broken rather quickly.

Though some like to use a briefcase to carry their papers, there are some people who don’t like the look. When they have a large amount of papers to take around with them, they will find that the duffle bags will help protect those papers as they will be lying flat. Think about teachers who have to carry a lot of papers back and forth to work each day, or the person who works from home for a few days a week. They have a lot to carry.

Duffle bags may not be as easy to carry as a backpack, but they are useful for many other reasons as well. They are even a good idea when travelling.They are usually more versatile, and can cost less as well. However, when hauling something delicate around, the more expensive type of duffle bag would be the best buy.

It’s great to go away for a few days into the countryside under canvas. There is nothing to beat breathing fresh air and eating outdoors, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Of course, having the right camping supplies and equipment makes the experience all the more enjoyable.

The basic things are the most important to get right. Tents vary in size and price, from the small one-man variety to large family tents. It’s important to select one that suits the terrain and climate of the destination. Some tents are only designed for summer weather and any winter camping will require a 4-season tent. Most campers like to have some kind of air mattress to sleep on. These come in single, double and king size with pillows and air pumps that can be charged up from a car battery.

A good sleeping bag will ensure you have a sound night’s sleep. There is also a choice of materials aimed at different weather conditions. A lantern or flashlight with spare batteries is an excellent item to put on your camping supplies list. Plastic table and chair sets are light and easy to keep clean and will last for years. There are portable stoves, Dutch ovens and barbecues, sets of durable pans and dishes and kettles. All food, wine and beer can be kept cool in mini refrigerators or cool boxes.

For those campers who don’t want to cook, they can buy camping supplies could include pre-prepared meals that just need added water. There is a good range of food that includes curries, chilies, meatballs and pasta and some delicious desserts. Screens will give protection from curious insects and windbreaks will give shelter from the elements.

Do your laundry is another consideration when living outdoors. Mini washing machines and dryers will keep the family in clothes and camping supplies should also include a clothes line or airer that can be attached to the tent. 

Toilet facilities are the more basic aspects of camping supplies but a necessary concern. There is a wide range of chemical and portable toilets on the market.

The Haven Holiday Park, Reighton Sands, is located atop the cliffs and and stands sentinal over miles of Sandy beach that runs from Speeton to Filey.

Promising the perfect beach holiday, weather permitting, Reighton Sands is open from March 20th to the November 2nd and does in fact offer quick access to a beach which is ideal for surfing, games or just sunbathing.

Location

Filey is the closest town to Reighton Sands, a quaint English fishing town located on the North East Coast of England.

Now Filey itself doesn’t offer too much in the way of things to do apart from enjoying the panoramic views from the clifftop on which the resort stands or enjoying a stroll along the beach which stretches from  Filey Brigg to Speeton. You’ll find most of the interest will lie on the park itself or further afield, but I’ll get into that later.

Whitby

The local area offers plenty of opportunity for getting out and about.

You can take a trip to Whitby, the charming little fishing town most famous for the fictional landing place of Count Dracula who travelled to England from Trannsylvania and found his ship was wrecked on its shores, there’s even a Dracula Experience which is guaranteed to give the kids a fright. Alternatively count the steps up to the clifftop Abbey, thought to have been Bram Stoker’s inspiration for his blood sucking tale, and educate yourself with the audio tour of this classical structure.

Flamingo Land Zoo

The kids will be champing at the bit to go to Flamingo Land Zoo. There are over 100 rides as well as a Zoo that plays host to Flamingos (well doh!) as well as Lions and other exotic creatures. A single price for admission will give you access to all the rides, just make sure you avoid it on bank holidays because the queues can get a little long…

My whole family and I love doing camping. I also like doing it alone. Camping is usually practiced the weekend in our family. Driving 2 hours afar from the city, we know a nice camping spot. My kids love this camping place. Breathing air, away from the city, is very important for the health.

Kitchen tools are important and likewise, the tent I am using: the North Face Vario 23 . I use one tent for my children and one tent for myself and my spouse. This tent has 2 main features: light and resistant to water. If you are planning to fish during your camping escape, always bring an additional pole to replace any broken ones.

Camping is a great experience in family. My kids love to take walks, to run around and a lot more. For myself, it is the best way to get rid of the weekly stress. For those rainy days, we found out a camping park where rustic cabins are available. For us, it is the perfect spot. So even during sunny weekends or during rainy ones, my family and I did find a great escape.

Haggerston Castle is situated in Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northern England and just south of the border of Scotland. Alnwick Castle
The world famous Alnwick Castle is a short car journey away and offers a glimpse of history dating all the way back to Medieval times.

The castle itself has proven popular with film makers over the years and has made an appearance (most notably) in the recent Harry Potter films as well as ‘Elizabeth’ and the BBC series ‘The Black Adder’.

Northumberland Coast
If you take a trip along the Northumberland Coast you will find a host of clean beaches, islands and expanses of silver sand.

Widely thought of as the best kept secret in England, Northumberland spans an area of 1935 square miles.

Lindisfarne
To round off the hilights of your Northumberland excursion we have to mention The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the focal point of England’s Christian heritage.
